I watched《人のセックスを笑うな》last night which is an adaptation of 山崎ナオコーラ's novel and it's directed by 井口奈己. Um, the original title is translated word for word into Chinese. 《不要嘲笑我們的性》, like omg, literal translations that don't make any sense. Please. It does put people off watching a great movie because of its odd title. And indeed, this movie deserves a better translation with title.

It seems to me that 井口さん has been able to sort of make a film on her own terms. Her observational skills, her deliberate pacing, the way she uses dialogue, make the film a delightful experience. I love this kind of low-key movie which is slow but also fun and playful with neat performances from the three lead characters. 永作博美 is such a fascinating character. She got a sweet smile, a lovely tone of voice, and brilliant body language. 松山ケンイチ's performance is cute here. 蒼井優 is an actress I really like and I am always curious by any movies she has to do.

There is not a wasted shot. I don't think there is a wasted line, everything is in its exact place. I was quite blown away by this interesting and engaging film. And I'm so gonna watch her debut movie《犬猫》for sure.
